North Dakota farmland for sale likely brings the highest prices when sold through North Dakota land auctions conducted by Certified Auctioneers.  A large state in the north central portion of the United States, North Dakota spans 68,976 square miles.  Over 39 million acres, or almost 90 percent of North Dakota real estate, is farmland.  Approximately 30,300 family farms and ranches populate the state with an average North Dakota farm size of 1,300 acres.  To bring top dollar, many owners chose to sell their properties at North Dakota real estate auctions.

The ingenious North Dakota farmers are experts in no-tillage and reduced tillage practices.  They also produce in the western portion of the state where the soil is porous and sandy.  Terrain changes from the Red River Valley to the hilly Great Plains or Badlands in the north and west of the Missouri River.  In addition, the Missouri River flows through the state and forms a very large Lake Sakakawea behind the Garrison Dam.

The sub-humid continental climate is perfect for the production of small grains and livestock.  Accordingly, the state's farms produce 93 percent of the nation's flaxseed, 82 percent of the canola, and 71 percent of the durum wheat.  Other crops ranked No. 1 in national production include spring wheat, barley, sunflowers, pinto beans, dry edible beans, and honey.  Farm animals include 1.9 million head of cattle, 185,000 pigs, 138,000 sheep, and 2 million turkeys.  The dairy cattle produce 710 million pounds of milk annually.
