Located in the northeastern and mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, New Jersey real estate spans 8,729 square miles. The Garden State features 9,000 farms totaling 821,700 acres, which is 17 percent of the total land in New Jersey. The average farm size is 83 acres. Three-fourths of the total agricultural outputs are crops and the rest consist of raising horses, seafood production, and dairy products.
The No. 1 crops are greenhouse and nursery products, which represent 40 percent of the total agricultural production. No. 2 crop is blueberries, No. 3 crops are cranberries and spinach. Farms also produce a fair amount of peaches, bell peppers, head lettuce, soybeans, nuts, and other fruits and vegetables.
Founded in 1837, New Jersey is home to over 8.7 million residents with 1,030 per square mile. It has the highest population density of all of the states along with one of the highest median incomes. The State Capital is Trenton and the largest city is Newark.
