Missouri extends over 69,000 square miles with 29 million acres of farmland. Two large defining rivers flow through Missouri: the Mississippi River defines the eastern boundary and the Missouri River flows from west to east. The Missouri River connects Kansas City and St. Louis. Summers are hot and humid and winters are cold, a perfect climate to create Menfro soil. Missouri has a population of approximately 6 million, divided between urban and rural communities. The largest cities are St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, and Columbia.
The following eight states border Missouri: Iowa to the north, across the Mississippi River to the east are Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Arkansas is on the southern border. Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska lie to the west.
In 2007, Missouri ranked 12th for value of agricultural products sold and 15th for farm exports. The value of agricultural products sold is approximately $7.5 billion and livestock production accounted for over half of those receipts. The state ranks No. 5 in rice, No. 6 in soybeans and cotton, No. 8 in grain sorghum, and No. 10 in corn production. A variety of fruits, vegetables, and specialty crops are also significant. In addition, Missouri farmers rank No. 2 in hay production.
