Certified Auctioneers will sell a historic commercial property in downtown Quitman Georgia at a real estate auction scheduled for Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.  Boasting two city blocks and thousands of square feet, the Quitman GA commercial real estate for sale at auction is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The historic commercial property in Quitman selling at the January 29 Georgia real estate auction extends from 101 East Screven Street to 213 East Screven Street at the corner of GA Highway 33 and US 84.  Screven Street is a major artery through downtown Quitman and US 84 is a major travel corridor east to west throughout the South.  The highly visible downtown location is great for business activity in the heart of Plantation Country.

Quitman GA real estate, plump with charming, friendly businesses and historic buildings, today still exudes the heritage of a bygone era.  These commercial buildings for sale at our GA real estate auction are right across from the courthouse.  For the past decade, the present owner operated a large Antiques Show Room with interior design services.

Quitman Historic District contains late 19th and early 20th century brick buildings in the downtown commercial sector.  The surrounding residential areas consist of mainly wood-frame homes from various periods and styles.  Spanish missionaries from Florida first settled the area in approximately 1570.

Quitman GA is in Brooks County.  Part of the Plantation Trace tourist region, Brooks County formed from parts of Lowndes and Thomas counties.  Brooks County's namesake is Preston Brooks who was an avid defender of state rights.  Brooks served in Congress prior to the Civil War.  The fertile Brooks County supplied most of the food for the confederacy during the Civil War, gaining a reputation as the Breadbasket of the South.

The community is located west of Interstate 75 and north of Interstate 10, about ten miles from the Florida State line.

From its beginnings in 1925, United Country Real Estate Auctions has led the nation in rural commercial real estate property sales.  The auction company produced the first-ever Real Estate Catalog in 1928.  United Country Real Estate Auctions set a tradition of selling the best properties for the highest possible price and the company affiliates continue it today.  Call Myers Jackson CAI, United Country Certified Real Estate at 800-711-9175 or visit www.CertifiedLandAuction.com for more information.
